About Brian Marshall
Brian uses his two decades of business and not-for-profit experience to bridge the gap between just working on the books and providing what business owners and managers actually need – advice and guidance on how to improve the business, and feedback from a trained professional who also knows what it is like to own a small business. In fact, it was the experience gained in running a small business and selling it that gave him the idea to go into accounting, where he could use his experience to help others. Since becoming a CPA mid-career in 2012, Brian has done everything from working in an accounting firm, to closing some of the largest acquisitions in the automotive industry, to negotiating national contracts for a multi-billion dollar business, and developing budgets and forecasts for businesses small and large. Brian lives in a suburb of Boston, MA with his wife of over 20 years and his three children. Brian is an avid mountain biker and outdoor enthusiast.
How A Fractional CFO Can Work With Your Existing Accounting Team
Unless you are at one of the largest companies, your accounting team probably does not have an expert to handle every situation that comes up. Your books might be clean, but you might not have someone with experience in forecasting next year’s performance. You might not have someone to get out of the day-to-day noise and review your bills for overcharges or opportunities to negotiate lower rates. That is where a Fractional CFO comes in to augment your existing staff with specific areas of expertise, without the need for you to hire and train a team of people.
Our Fractional Team can help assist your team with everything from monthly closing checklists to streamline and improve the quality of your close, to budgeting and forecasting, cost reduction, Mergers & Acquisitions, financial modeling, Board reporting, Financial Planning and Analysis, and more. Get the services you need, only when you need them.

Fractional CFO
Need someone to review your financial reports with, so you know how to make sense of them? What about the processes and procedures that your accounting department follows? How does your actual performance compare to your budget, and what is causing the differences? Is your cash management optimized to provide the best possible liquidity for your business? What are your areas for improvement?
Our fractional CFO services cover these and more areas, so that you can get the exact level of expert advice you need to help your business, without the commitment of a full-time hire.
Financial Planning & Analysis
Financial planning and analysis combines your operations and financial reporting to give you insights on the sales, expenses, and profits of your business. While traditional accounting focuses on the dollars and cents of your daily transactions, financial planning and analysis (FP&A) concentrates on how you are making money, what your revenue streams are and relates your financial data to real world action items that business owners need to make their business decisions. These services enable business owners and executives to plan for the future rather than worrying about the past.
Mergers & Acquisitions / Business Development
For many business owners, one of the most critical decisions they will ever make will be deciding whether to buy another business or not as well as determining a fair price for these acquisitions. Many business owners set their selling price at an emotional value rather than an appropriate market value based on standard valuation procedures. Having an expert in your corner when making a purchase is essential to make sure you get the best value for your money.
